About
Hannah Brooks practices under a constraint most dentists never confront directly: a meaningful number of her patients will not be able to come back.
Bridger Family Dental is the closest dentist for people across a catchment stretching ninety miles in three directions. That reality shapes everything downstream. Treatment is completed in a single visit wherever it is defensible. Triage puts the most consequential problem first, even when it is not the one the patient came in about. Two chairs are held open daily for emergencies and are not released when the schedule looks thin.
Brooks trained two of her assistants through an expanded-function program and pays for the licensure, because the alternative — waiting for someone qualified to move to Bozeman — is not a plan. “Rural access is not a shortage of dentists,” she says. “It is a shortage of everybody else.”

Practices that cannot hire hygienists are not simply seeing fewer patients. They are quietly restructuring what a dental visit is, and some of the changes are unlikely to reverse.
The Quiet Return of the Solo Practice
Solo ownership was supposed to be finished. A cohort of dentists in their thirties is choosing it anyway, and their reasoning has less to do with independence than with arithmetic.
