Methodology

The Dental Authority 100 is compiled by our editorial staff. There is no application fee, no paid placement, and no sponsored tier. Practices and individuals cannot buy consideration, and none of the honorees are notified before the list is finalized.

Nominations open in the autumn and are accepted from anyone — patients, colleagues, staff, suppliers, and the profession’s own institutions. Our reporters also nominate independently based on reporting done over the preceding year.

Every nomination is researched. We speak with colleagues and, where appropriate, with patients. We look at what a practice does when it is inconvenient, not what it says on its website.

The final list is edited, not scored. A ranking algorithm applied to a profession this varied would produce a number that means nothing; we would rather defend a judgment than hide behind arithmetic.

What we look for

  • Demonstrated commitment to patient care over throughput
  • Clinical excellence and continued education
  • Contribution to the profession — teaching, mentorship, research, or public service
  • Innovation that patients can actually feel
  • Independence of judgment
