About
The first appointment at Grace Lin’s practice produces a scan, a set of photographs, and nothing else. Patients then spend roughly six weeks in a design phase, wearing printed mock-ups home and returning with notes, before any preparation begins.
It is a slower and more expensive front end than most cosmetic practices tolerate, and Lin’s defense of it is unsentimental: it is the only part of the process that can still be undone. Roughly one in five patients changes the plan during the provisional period.
She archives every case at eight stages and shows prospective patients the ones that required revision. “If the only cases you show are the ones that went perfectly,” she says, “you are not showing them dentistry. You are showing them a catalogue.”
